UN Headquarters Geneva 2008
One of the most ambitious and prestigious projects that we have participated in was the refurbishment of the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room in the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. The commission came from the artist Miquel Barceló, responsible for the colossal dome, and the project director, the architect Toni Esteva. We worked closely with them to produce over 80 different rugs to cover the walls of the gigantic 600 square-metre hall. Each rug was hand-made in India, in 100% wool (New Zealand), with the hand knotted technique (supreme quality, 70,000 knots/m2) and in natural colour to contrast with the colourfulness of the dome. The design complemented the work of Barceló, and the rugs also acted as soundproofing for the hall. nanimarquina also coordinated the in-situ placement of the rugs, guaranteeing a comprehensive service.
