Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya Barcelona (España) 2006
Between 2005 and 2006, the architect Elías Torres undertook the remodelling of the mythical Saló Daurat in the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya, seat of the Government of Catalonia, where one of the most well-known works of the artist Antoni Tápias was to be found.
To blend in with the spectacular marble mosaic on the floor of the hall, Torres contacted us for advice on how to reproduce it. Based on a detail of the mosaic, the architect wanted to enlarge it and reproduce it in wool. To obtain the effect of the marble colour, the pantone colours for the wools were selected in situ, and two tones per colour were mixed. We produced a rug with a 7m diameter in 100% wool (New Zealand). The success of the project undoubtedly lay in combining the architect’s idea with the nanimarquina team’s know-how.
