This year, in nanimarquina we designed a new rug collection that will immerse us into the stunning world of nature. The Natural Collection has been produced with an exclusive selection of natural fibres that reflect the plurality that nature has to offer: nettle, afghan wool, silk and jute. These fibres are twisted together into continuous thread: a highly laborious manual process that enriches the design, giving each carpet a soft and unique texture. Each thread, each knot, transports us to the world where this rug began. The Natural Collection has been made using biodegradable, chemical-free cleaning products. This took nanimarquina a step further in the fight against environmental degradation. After 25 years designing rugs, our thinking has been that true innovation lies precisely in creating rugs using what our environment gives us, like the plant that grows around us.

For those who have not yet had the opportunity to meet in person rugs Chillida Collection, now have the opportunity to see them in Madrid.
The prestigious London designer store BD exposes this set of seven carpets until March 15. The presentation by Nani, was made last week, which exposed the press ahead of drawings and collages of artist brought to the fabric: a mix at their art and design, silk and wool floor covering, but also walls.
The success of the collection so far was also reflected in the presentation: the surprise of journalists who did not yet know the collection or had not had the opportunity to appreciate its texture was the point that allowed Nani to highlight the nuances of this timeless collection: materials, weaving techniques and, of course, the personal and professional impact of the original works of the author Basque.
Art can also be a good tapestry, the decision to put it on the floor or on the wall and it is up to each.

After a week in the Imm Cologne, Germany, we are back!

It has been a very cold week, in fact it has been snowing all time. From the first day, the city remained totally covered by a white coat that wrapped up parks, buildings, streets, and even the gorgeous Gothic cathedral, Heritage of the Humanity and one of few buildings that survived the bombardments of the allies during the Second World War.

In spite of the cold, the fair has been a success! And the presentation of the new colour of the Losanges in shades of beige and grey, a modal.聽The Losange II has attracted all the looks, has generated curiosity from the visitors and also Erwan Bouroullec has visited us.

Probably, most of our blog followers have read “Chillida France Tour 2012″ and have thought: …well, 2012, that鈥檚 just too old, it鈥檚 the past. Most probably, those who had not realized it before are just thinking so right now… And even more probably, you keep on reading nevertheless, because the title, setting aside the date (which is just a simple bunch of numbers, to tell you the truth) is enticing: Chillida France Tour.

Well then, in the last months of 2012, between the hot summer sun and the chocolates and Christmas dinners, the Chillida collection by nanimarquina toured France: Barcelona 鈥 Paris, Paris 鈥 Toulouse, Toulouse 鈥 Lille.

The tour began in September in Paris, at MyDesign store. On 6th September, just when the Paris Design Week was on, we presented the whole Chillida collection, consisting of 7 rugs,聽 surrounded bynanimarquina’s fans and others who were about to discover the brand just then. The event was really beautiful: great city, great shop, great people… and was presented by Nani herself. Paris, a city where Chillida lived during the 40’s and where his work actually began to materialize, welcomed us once again with open arms.

Further south, the morning of the 11th October, Toulouse was chosen as the next stop. The city was celebrating at the time the popular feast of Vendanges, where all the shops of the city centre go out to the streets. Nanimarquina did not go out, but into one of the best design shops of the city, 2B Design. Once again, the French were astonished by those paintings turned into rugs, with the Chillida hallmark on a carpet.

And from the south, on 15th November, when the cold weather had come to stay, we moved to Lille, on the Northeastern end of the country. Our trip around France ended at the Emotions store, presenting there once again the 7 rugs of one of the most special collections edited ever by nanimarquina. Chillida, la France vous adore.

On December 2nd & 3rd, in frigid temperatures, the Belgian quaint town of聽Gos-Opleeuw聽opened, for the first time, its doors to rug designer Nani Marquina.

Amid the cold Belgian winter, in a lovely setting under the title 鈥25 ans de tapis avec Nani Marquina鈥 ZU presented several of the designer鈥檚 creations composed over the last 25 years of the firm. In contrast to the outdoors wintery scenery, the rugs on exhibition captured the enthusiasm of the audience by creating a comfortable and cozy atmosphere with such designs as Antique,聽Medina, Kala, DO-LO-REZ and Collage 1966 among others.

The date was 12/12/2012. A special date such as this deserved a special聽ceremony as it was. Twelve speakers, with twelve minutes each and an聽audience of 1,212 attentive to every word they spoke. Coming from聽diverse backgrounds of gastronomy, journalism, business, advertising,聽design and even the magical world of illusion, the speakers made聽the public aware of the importance of being creative, daring, supportive聽and enterprising. We are in a constant state of accelerated evolution聽(no need here to refer to technological developments, or globalization聽topics, etc.) in a world where reinventing the personal and business聽values are simply essential for growth. Indeed if something became clear聽in the conference halls of the聽Palau de Congressos in Barcelona, was聽that in shared personal and professional experiences it is essential to聽open our hearts and minds to new challenges, new opportunities and new聽ideas in order to conquer the future.

Nani Marquina spoke about the value of creativity and how we can聽encourage it. “Everyone is creative, it is within us, we must uncover,
be brave, supportive and risk externalizing, only then will we recognize聽and be given the confidence within ourselves and our surrounding
environment.”

Berlin, 29th of November

If anything best characterizes Berlin, aside from its past, it would be the creative explosion that flooded the city: Berlin鈥檚 artistic expression is everywhere. For this reason, Nani Marquina should be present in this modern design setting.

More than one hundred people attended the presentation of the Chillida collection created by Nani Marquina at the prestigious Modus store, owned by Inez Franksen. Nestled in the alternative and modern neighborhood of Kurf眉rstendamm, Modus opened in 1964. It has organized dozens of events hosting such artist as Jasper Morrison and Dieter Rams, among many others.

This was the first time that the entire Chillida collection was presented in Germany. The presentation had to be more than special: it had to be exceptional. And it was! The success of this event was reflected by an enthusiastic public, amazed by Nani’s ability to raise the bar on tapestry making, authentic artwork that coalesces with Berlin’s grandeur.

Wim and SofieVos from ZU inaugurate a new showroom in Belgium and they celebrate it with an exhibition of nanimarquina’s 25 anniversary.

Besides the exhibition of some of the most emblematic rugs of the brand, Nani Marquina will hold a conference on Monday morning and will attend the press.
